Dr. Holly Roberts is originally from Kentucky and is a 2010 graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. After completion of veterinary school, she performed a rotating internship at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in New York City. She then went on to complete a dermatology residency as well as obtain her Masters of Science at Ohio State University. Dr. Roberts became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2014 and has practiced in Delaware, Northern Virginia, Texas and Ohio since that time. During the summer of 2020, she returned to her hometown of Louisville and is currently practicing at Metropolitan Veterinary Specialists.

Karl C. Maritato, DVM, Diplomate, ACVS-SA, is a board-certified Veterinary Surgeon at MedVet Cincinnati, where he has been part of the medical team since 2010. Dr. Maritato attended the University of Florida, where he earned two Bachelor of Science degrees. At Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, graduating with highest honors and at the top of his class. He received the American Animal Hospital Association Small Animal Medicine Award, the Pfizer Parasitology Award, and the Novartis Pharmacology Award. Following his graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Maritato completed a yearlong internship in small animal medicine and surgery followed by a yearlong surgical internship at the Louisiana Veterinary Referral Center, now MedVet

Mandeville. He then completed a three-year residency in small animal surgery at MedVet Columbus.
After completing his residency and becoming a board-certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Dr. Maritato played an integral role in the development and introduction of new surgical options for the Cincinnati community. Within months of opening the surgery department, he performed the first cement-less canine total hip replacement and minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures in Cincinnati. When MedVet Dayton opened in 2012, he used his skills and experience to develop a full service surgery department there as well.

Dr. Maritato is the co-editor of a textbook of locking implant technology for use in small animals as well as the co-editor of an issue of Veterinary Clinics of North America on minimally invasive fracture repair. He is also the author and co-author of scientific articles in a variety of veterinary publications, including Veterinary Surgery, the Veterinary Clinics of North America, the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Comparative Orthopedics and Traumatology, Compendium for Continuing Veterinary Education, Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, Journal of Small Animal Practice, Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Clinicians Brief. Dr. Maritato is also consistently invited to review surgical literature for accuracy for select veterinary journals.

Dr. Maritato is an active advocate of continued education for veterinary professionals and has lectured on a variety of small animal topics throughout the country at regional, state, and national venues, as well as in Europe. He has also been featured on NBC 4 News in Columbus, as well as AM 550 (WKRC), ABC 9 News, and Fox 19 News in Cincinnati.

Dr. Maritato maintains an interest in all aspects of small animal surgery with particular interests in neurosurgery, oncologic surgery, and orthopedic surgery. He has a focused interest on diseases of the stifle (knee), angular limb deformities and minimally invasive fracture repair. Dr. Maritato also performs clinical research through the MedVet Clinical Studies department and has developed orthopedic implants for use in dogs. Lastly, he is the program director for both the Cincinnati Surgical Residency and Surgical Internship programs. He enjoys being able to offer clients and patients treatment options for complex disorders that seem untreatable. When not treating patients, Dr. Maritato enjoys gardening and traveling with his wife.

Dr. Sue Ettinger is a practicing veterinary cancer specialist, international speaker, book author, and YouTube vlogger (video blogger). A dynamic and engaging speaker, she was voted the 2019 Western Veterinary Conference Small Animal Continuing Educator of the Year. She is one of approximately 450 board-certified specialists in medical oncology in North America and currently practices at Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, Connecticut. She is co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Fidu, a teleconsulting company to bring together general practice veterinarians and boarded veterinary specialists. She received her veterinary training at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her residency in medical oncology at the Animal Medical Center in NYC.

Also known as Dr Sue Cancer Vet®, she is most passionate about raising cancer awareness and has developed “See Something, Do Something, Why Wait? Aspirate.®” to promote early cancer detection and diagnosis. Dr Sue loves to use social media to help clients and veterinary professionals with cancer in pets, including her popular Instagram, YouTube channel, and Facebook page with over 44,000 followers.

Dr. Jerrod Johnson received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of the Cumberlands in 2007. In 2011, he graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and is currently a partner and managing DVM for NVA Gateway Veterinary Management Group, LLC.

Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association. He is an Elite Fear-Free certified professional, a member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management and a member the International Association for the Study of Pain. He is also certified by the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in companion animal pain management.

Dr. Johnson’s professional interests include soft tissue, orthopedic, minimally invasive surgery, and pain management, specifically the use of regional and local anesthesia to alleviate pain. He is passionate about furthering the future of the profession through mentorship and teaching.

Dr. Little attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he received both a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After veterinary school he spent time as an associate veterinarian in equine and mixed animal practices in middle Tennessee. Dr. Little then established his own cattle and equine practice. After a few years owning and operating his practice, Dr. Little transitioned to the animal health industry by joining Neogen Corporation where he served as a professional service veterinarian and later as director of professional services. Next, Dr. Little joined Bayer Animal Health. There he served in multiple roles including regional business manager for the southern U.S. and senior veterinary scientific liaison. Currently, Dr. Little is an Assistant Professor, Clinical Relations Veterinarian at the Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine. In his current role, he works with fourth year veterinary students and clinical affiliate veterinary practices of the college of veterinary medicine.

After graduating from the University of Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Moore spent more than 22 years in the US Army, and is currently a Professor at Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in West Lafayette, Indiana. A board-certified internist, his research interests include infectious disease epidemiology, vaccine safety, and evidence-based medicine. Dr. Moore has authored or co-authored more than 150 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Katherine Gerken received her DVM from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, followed by a one-year rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Mississippi State University. She completed a residency in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care as well as a Master’s degree at The Ohio State University in 2018. Dr. Gerken is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care.

She is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of the Auburn University Emergency and Critical Care service with the Department of Clinical Sciences. Dr. Gerken has completed additional training with the Hemodialysis Academy and the Institute of Healthcare Communications for Veterinary Professionals. In 2022, she was awarded the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine Clinician of the Year by her peers and students.

Dr. Matt Brunke is a native New Yorker, growing up in New York City. He received his DVM from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, graduating in 2004. He received his certification in rehab in 2008 from the University of Tennessee CCRP program and now teaches for that program. He is also certified in pain management (IVAPM) and acupuncture (Chi Institute). He completed the practice experience pathway for the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2017 and passed ACVSMR boards in January 2018. He is the medical director at Veterinary Surgical Centers Rehabilitation in Vienna, VA.

Dr. McClosky graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. After earning her veterinary degree she completed a one-year rotating internship and Small Animal Internal Medicine residency at Penn Vet, earning board certification in 2018. Following her residency she stayed on as Lecturer of Internal Medicine at Penn Vet and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2020. Within internal medicine her interests lie in infectious disease, hematology and nephrology. She is passionate about veterinary education, resident training and wellness in the veterinary community. Outside of veterinary medicine Dr. McClosky enjoys spending time with her tripod shih tzu, Mabel and her one-kidney cat, Doug Jones.

Dr. DJ Haeussler grew up in the Cincinnati area. He finished his undergraduate work at The Ohio State University and then received his doctorate in 2006. He then went to New Jersey where he finished two internships at Garden State Veterinary Specialists and then returned to his alma mater, The Ohio State University to complete his residency. While at Ohio State University for his residency, he completed a Master of Science degree and earned the top award for professional student research at Ohio State as well as the top resident award for professional research at the annual American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) in 2010. Dr. DJ Haeussler has been published in Veterinary Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Clinician’s Brief, and others. His publications have been referenced in the gold standard textbook, Veterinary Ophthalmology. Dr. Haeussler has also published a photographic atlas to help better help veterinarians and veterinary technicians identify ophthalmic disease in dogs and is entitled Recognition of Canine Ocular Disease: A Photo Atlas, Volume 1. Dr. Haeussler’s photographs of ophthalmic disease are found in textbooks and lectures worldwide. Dr. Haeussler has also served as a part-time ophthalmology consultant and clinician at Garden State Veterinary Specialists, in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. Dr. Haeussler is a board certified diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO). Dr. Haeussler has also served on the ACVO Public Relations committee as the committee chair, president of the Cincinnati Veterinary Medical Association, and is a member of the Cincinnati Veterinary Medical Association Board of Trustees.

Dr. Haeussler’s interests are providing exceptional ophthalmic care to prolong vision and comfort for your pet. He is very interested in cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation as well as various surgical methods of corneal repair. He enjoys mentoring young doctors and enjoys lecturing at the local, state, and international levels. Dr. DJ Haeussler is married to Dr. Jayme Haeussler, a veterinarian in the Cincinnati area. Outside of his career, he is an avid sports fan and enjoys following the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loves to spend time with his wife, Jayme, their two sons, Trey and Dane, and their dog, Charlotte Pickles. Dr. Haeussler’s other hobbies include scuba diving, photography (even underwater!), and anything to do with veterinary ophthalmology.
