Topics to be presented will be:

  • Practical Approach to Arrhythmias

Review the cardiac conduction system, the components of an ECG tracing, discuss the approach to reading the ECG, the ECG diagnosis of common arrhythmias in small animals, and the medical management of bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias.

  • Syncope vs Seizure

Syncope is a relatively common clinical complaint in veterinary cardiology but it can be difficult to discern from neurologic disease.  The lecture will discuss the clue that can help differentiate syncope and seizure based on history and exam.  In addition, we will review the many different causes of cardiogenic syncope, outline the diagnostic approach, and discuss the importance of correctly identifying the underlying etiopathogenesis to provide efficacious treatment recommendations.

  • Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in Dogs

The discussion will include the primary and secondary stages, pathophysiology, and treatments of each stage and the prognosis for stage 2 and stage 3 in dilated cardiomyopathy.

This meeting is open to veterinarians and technicians both.  Please feel free to pass this information along to any colleagues who might be interested.  Lunch and snacks will be provided.

RSVP to or to Jasona at 270-886-3959 by July 18.
